EDGE project idea:

Hello

We are Worldwide Book Drive, one of the largest used-book donors in the US, and we need your help!

Our organization donates gently-used books to charitable organizations that focus on education and literacy.  This promotes global literacy while protecting the environment from book waste.  Our goal is to donate 550,000 books this year.  Your unused books do not help you… but they can help someone else!

WITH YOUR HELP, WE CAN

·         Promote global literacy (1 in 5 adults worldwide are illiterate!)
·         Improve the environment (millions of pounds of books are sent to landfills every year!)
·         Raise money for your club
·         Fulfill service project requirements
·         Provide recognition for your contributions (including plaques and gift cards for Gold and Platinum contributors!)

RUN A BOOK DRIVE

Will the Leadership Engagement Center (LEC) at Southern Utah University run a book drive on your campus to help us fulfill our mission? We need volunteers now!  By collecting books on campus, you help us increase our selection of books for the charities that we support.  Simultaneously, you raise funds for your club through a worthwhile service project!

We collect and donate ALL types of books.  However, we currently have a need for more college-level text books.  That is why Worldwide Book Drive will pay you $1 per college textbook printed within the last 5 years.  These are referred to as “qualifying books,” because they count towards the fundraiser.  (We will, of course, accept and use all books sent to us, but only qualifying textbooks will count towards the fundraiser.)

HOW IT WORKS

The book drive is simple.  We send you marketing materials and ideas to get you started. Talking to professors, students, the library and the campus bookstore will help you collect books and meet new people!

If you demonstrate your commitment by collecting at least 15 qualified books, we will send you collection boxes to set up around your campus. You’ll need a place to store the books you collect until you are ready to ship them.

Once your drive is complete (or you run out of storage space!), your club must pack the books up into boxes.  You then notify us when that your shipment is ready.  We arrange and pay for all the shipping from you to our warehouse.  There are no out-of-pocket expenses for your club!

If this sounds good to you, please sign up to run a book drive!  Follow this link to fill out a Book Drive Agreement. (Note: If you have any problems with the link, just call or email and we can email you a Word document version.)  You may begin your drive whenever is convenient; we work hard to accommodate your schedule.

If you are interested in learning more about this program, please visit www.worldwidebooks.org or contact me by phone or email.  To date, we have successfully donated more than 2.8 million books and we need your help to increase this number!

SEND BOOKS

Even if you cannot host a book drive, we will glad accept your used books!  Contact us today to ship your books to one of our warehouses.

SUGGEST CHARITIES

We are always looking for move avenues to donate books.  If you are aware of any local or international needs, please let us know!

 Have a great day!

Thanks,

Hello!
Tomorrow evening, Oct. 1 at 5:30 we'll be having an information meeting for anyone interested in the Rebels of the Renaissance: A Field Study of Change Leadership.  We'll begin at the LEC, then move to an off campus location that is close by to learn a little about Italian cooking.
This study abroad experience is open to all SUU students, faculty, staff and their family and friends.  It can count as a Leadership EDGE project, and can also provide 4 hours of course credit for those interested.

If you know of anyone who would be interested in this opportunity, please pass the word!  We have had several people express interest, so I am excited that this Spring Break trip may become a reality, with potential for Maymester or summer trips as well.
Thanks for getting the word out!

Library.....EDGE Project?????

The library has been working with local elementary school to implement a new cataloging system. We are looking for students who need service hours who can help us with this work. We will train everyone and it is fairly easy to learn but accuracy is important if the books are to be searchable and accessible when we are done. We are wondering if you could help us find some student who would be interested in helping with the project. We are hoping to start around the first of October. If you know of anyone who is willing to help please have them contact me or have them fill out this form. https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/viewform?formkey=dGVyLUNSeFVsTnBuSERoUFA5X09TeXc6MQ#gid=0

Also if you know of anyone who might be interested in helping to organize the work and volunteers as a EDGE project then they can contact me for more specific information.
